Green Council

Our Goals and Mission

The Green Council consists of 10 dedicated and committed individuals from the student body. The goals of Green Council include promoting the adoption of a sustainable lifestyle among students, inculcating in students a love and passion for the environment as well as increasing sustainable efforts in Hwa Chong.

Through the events, initiatives, and permanent fixtures it upkeeps, the Green Council continually strives to raise awareness on issues relating to sustainability, spearheading environmental initiatives and directing the school community to adopt a greener and more sustainable way of life.

🌿 Permanent Fixtures

• The Butterfly Garden (ButtGard)  is our in-house butterfly and edible garden near the science labs. It is a place where Green Councillors are able to exercise their creative freedom in selecting and growing vegetation here, and enjoy nature.

• The Thrift Store is reopening this year!! The store operates on a points-based system, giving donated items such as clothes, books, and games a second life through school-wide donation drives.

• Publicity & Education: Through our 2°C Instagram series, we seek to highlight global environmental issues and local climate efforts, raising awareness and inspiring action across the student body.

Other than permanent fixtures, Green Council also takes the lead in planning our yearly large-scale events which actively engages the student population

🌍 Signature Events

• Earth Week is a school-wide campaign designed to raise awareness of sustainability through interactive activities, upcycling workshops, and discussions on pressing environmental challenges.

• The annual Green Conference is our flagship event that brings together environmental leaders, changemakers, and students for meaningful conversations and collaborative solutions

At Green Council, we strive not only to raise awareness but also to create opportunities for students to engage with sustainability in tangible and impactful ways.

So, if you are passionate about the environment and eager to grow as a leader, we welcome you to join us in building a greener, more sustainable Hwa Chong!
