Paddle, climb, trek, ride — at OESC, the adventure never stops! The Outdoor Education Students’ Club (OESC) is a close-knit family of adventurers bonded by our deep passion for the great outdoors. Each session, we dive into six core activities — hiking, kayaking, cycling, climbing, outdoor cooking, and campcraft — pushing our limits, honing skills, and sharing the joy of the outdoors together.
Wednesday, 2.30 - 6pm
Monday/Friday, 4 - 6.30pm
1) Useful to have outdoor experiences and skills
However, don't worry if you don't because the selection process will not disadvantage you
2) More importantly, we look out for:
Responsibility and initiative
Teamwork, open-mindedness and empathy
Resilience and adaptability
Care for our environment
Enthusiasm and a love for the outdoors!
Every year, OESC organises the Outdoor Education Forum, our inter-school keynote event aimed to promote interaction between outdoor clubs from different schools.
Through engaging activities like orienteering and sharings from experienced outdoor advocates, participants learn more about Singapore’s outdoor community and forge deeper bonds.
Biannually, OESC organises Outlast, an intra-school event where Hwa Chong students can try their hand at a variety of outdoor activities like rock climbing and kayaking.
Through these events, we hope to ignite a passion for the environment in our peers, and encourage them to step out of their comfort zones and embrace the great outdoors.
OESC places a strong emphasis on personal development, accumulating numerous certifications as a CCA. Some of these include:
Singapore National Climbing Standards Level 1
1 Star Kayaking
Abseiling Proficiency Course Level 1
Standard First Aid + CPR + AED Course
OESC participates in competitions on an optional basis, as they are not central to our CCA. However, members are encouraged to push themselves through participating in competitions within their niches.
Some of our members regularly participate in Orienteering competitions, inclusive of the National Orienteering Race (NOR) in 2024 and 2025
We also participate in adventure races, like the Adventure Trail Challenge (ATC) and the Jurong Lake Adventure Race (JLAR) in 2025
Pre COVID-19, we also participated in inter-school climbing competitions

Love the outdoors? So do we! At the Outdoor Education Students’ Club (OESC), we are a small but close-knit batch of 18, tied together by our burning passion for adventure and the outdoors. Every session, we engage in 6 core activities: Hiking, Kayaking, Cycling, Rock Climbing (Top Rope and Bouldering), Outdoor Cooking and Pioneering (Campcraft). We are all about basking in the spirit of adventure, conquering challenges, and pushing our limits at every step of our way. It is our mission to hone essential skills necessary for exploring the outdoors, and our hope to share this very love with others too!
At OESC, all our sessions are self-initiated – we get to shape our adventure! Through planning and leading sessions, every member gets the opportunity to step up and grow as both people and leaders. OESC is not just a CCA, but a place where we strive for improvement, and mature to become respectful, responsible and reliable individuals that stay appreciative and optimistic in face of difficulty.
On top of typical CCA sessions, get ready to organise large-scale events like the biannual intra-school Outlast initiative, and the annual inter-school Outdoor Education Forum (OEF). These events aim to promote a love for the outdoors and further connect the wider outdoor community in Singapore. As COVID restrictions finally ease, you can also look forward to the opportunity to go on a potential overseas trip.
Lastly, here’s a fun fact about us! OESC is actually formed from the merger of 2 CCAs with rich traditions – Hwa Chong’s Tahan Mountaineering Club and Outdoor Adventure Club! In 2026, we will be welcoming our 12th batch of OESC members. So what are you waiting for? Adventure’s better together, sun, fun and friends await — come on board and join our OESC family now!
