What is HACAS?
At the Humanities and Current Affairs Society (HACAS), we are a family that believes that the Humanities is where curiosity meets compassion, where ideas inspire action, and where tomorrow’s changemakers are shaped.
Amongst our innumerable highlights, our proudest has to be Hwa Chong’s flagship Model United Nations conference: Hwa Chong Conflict, Resolution & Inquiry. With HACAS, you will have the opportunity to lead the unparalleled platform where students – across schools – engage in debate, diplomacy and dialogue, promoting academic discourse on international relations.
As a member of HACAS, you can look forward to our undoubtedly invigorating weekly sessions, which consist of both i) Combined and ii) Wing sessions.
With each month’s initiatives oriented around a dedicated Humanities-related theme, members stand to immerse in a wide range of experiences – with an Area of Focus to narrow down each week’s objectives in alignment with the aforesaid Theme of the Month.
Combined Sessions rotate between:
Odd Activities in Week 1
Creative and unconventional activities, an example being debate!
Movie ‘Nights’ in Week 2
I.e. movie screening time, where we sit back and immerse in selected films, documentaries or otherwise, as a form of exploration into prevalent issues in the Humanities!
Application in Week 3
Humanities related field trips! For instance, excursions to exhibitions at the National Museum of Singapore, Asian Civilisations Museum, or others!
Ad Hoc in Week 4 & 5
The perfect opportunity to explore inter-CCA collaborations (e.g. OESC, Studio Ardent, Canoeing, Chinese Orchestra, just to name a few), partnerships with interest groups (e.g. Hwa Chong Law Society, &c), and even experience the fun of other Wings’ sessions – beyond your own! Let your creative juices flow!
Find island-hopping, museum visits, speaker dialogues with academics, and HACAS’s very own Humanities Escape Room absolutely electrifying? Then, what are you waiting for? Come join us, and part of the HACAS family now!
ii) HACAS is composed of four wings. They are: Current Affairs, Geography, History and Model United Nations! These are spaces designed to deepen your passions, with activities tailored to each specified discipline. To further your interests in each discipline’s fields, as a member of our HACAS, you are invited to join any one of these wings, and represent the institution and participant in opportunities open to all HACAS members, regardless of your wing – be it both local and overseas Model United Nations conferences (such as Harvard WorldMUN, THIMUN, Singapore Model United Nations, Global Youth Leaders' Summit, NTU Model United Nations, OnePeople.sg Model United Nations, Preparatory Model United Nations), Chancellor’s Challenge Shield, International History Bee and Bowl, International History Olympiad and International Geography Bee, or otherwise.
Ultimately, HACAS is a family of curious individuals with a shared passion for the Humanities. Whether you are exploring ideas across disciplines, uncovering new perspectives, looking for fun and academically stimulating environments, or otherwise, we believe HACAS be there to spark inspiration that stays with you far beyond your journey with us here!
The only remaining question is… Are you ready for what HACAS has to offer!
We look forward to welcome you into the HACAS family with open arms!
